Pavel Zuštiak is a choreographer and sound designer living in New York City. Born in the former Czechoslovakia he relocated to New York City in 1999 where he established Palissimo as a sustaining platform for a collaborative creative process, research and production development. The New York Times describes Zuštiak's work as “compellingly surreal and genuinely dark,” while the Village Voice commented that it “casts a potent spell.” His most recent evening length work “Weddings and Beheadings” was commissioned by the Harkness Dance Festival and presented at the Ailey Citigroup Theater in March 2009. Upcoming projects include a site specific work “Halt!” and a trilogy titled “The Painted Bird.” Zuštiak is the recipient of 2007 Princess Grace Award, is a 2008-09 Movement Research Artist-in-Residence and recipient of 2006 Jerome Foundation Study and Travel Grant in support of research in Vienna and Brussels.
