Karen Carpenter
Initial PGF Award: Graduate Film Scholarship, 2005
Karen Dee Carpenter attended Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and graduated with a B.F.A. degree in Painting. Her artwork has been exhibited internationally and she has been the recipient of numerous awards including a Partners of the Americas Travel Grant for an exhibition of her paintings in Brazil. Karen has produced four short films for which she has received a PA Council on the Arts Fellowship in both Filmmaking and Screenwriting. Her previous film, My Scarlet Letter, was awarded the Best Graduate Student Film by five festivals, including the 2004 Hamptons International Film Festival, and has screened at festivals internationally, including Torino, Mill Valley, and Brooklyn International. This film also had a national theatrical release as part of the GenArt/Acura Screening series. Karen recently received her M.F.A degree in Film and Media Arts at Temple University. Her thesis film, Sarah + Dee, has been honored with the prestigious Princess Grace Award which funded the production. Sarah + Dee is currently screening at several festivals, including Aspen Shortsfest, LA Shorts Fest and Mill Valley Film Festival. Karen resides in Los Angeles where she is developing her first feature film.
